Rimu Lodge is a peaceful, boutique lodge tucked away on the wild west coast, just outside Hokitika. Built from natural timbers and with enormous picture windows to let in the natural light, the views from the property encompass expanses of native bush, the Hokitika River and the Southern Alps beyond. There are just four rooms here, all facing north-east to catch the sunrise, and all with comfortable chairs, a fridge and tea/coffee facilities. The central ‘great’ room is a welcoming gathering place, with large sofas and a fireplace and it opens out on to a deck with the same spectacular views. This is a great spot from which to catch the afternoon sun and listen to the chorus of birdsong that surrounds the lodge.
