Hapuku Lodge is one of Kaikoura’s best-known accommodation options, a unique property located on a large deer-breeding farm ten minutes north of the town. The luxurious accommodation is housed in the main, country-style lodge and in stand-alone, contemporary tree-houses nestled amongst a native kanuka grove. The traditional lodge rooms have king beds and balconies that overlook the farm’s paddocks, whilst two larger suites have a lounge area and separate bedroom. At 10 metres above ground the treehouses are designed to blend with the natural environment, with large windows that peek out above the trees for views over the paddocks and towards the coast, just over a kilometre away. The one-bedroom tree houses have a large bedroom on the upper floor with king bed and seating area, whilst the two-bedroom family treehouses have a second bedroom underneath. Cuisine is an important part of your stay and a ‘farm to fork’ philosophy defines the seasonal dishes on offer, most ingredients being sourced locally. The lodge is well placed for walking, mountain biking (bikes are available for hire from the lodge), learning about New Zealand farming, relaxing in the spa or, of course, enjoying the many wildlife viewing opportunities available in the town.
