Day 1
Depart the UK today for the start of your New Zealand adventure!
Day 2
You will be in flight today, you may like to consider adding in a stopover on route to New Zealand to break up your journey.
Day 3
Arrive in Auckland today. Your have the rest of the day at leisure to relax and explore after your long flight.
Day 4
You have a day at leisure to explore Auckland city. You might like to go up the Skytower for amazing views of the city or take a short ferry across to Waiheke island, famous for their wine and olive oil.
Day 5
Collect your hire car this morning and make your way to the geothermal centre of Rotorua. You might like to stop at Matamata en route to visit the famous Hobbiton movie set!
Day 6
Enjoy a day around Rotorua, visit one of the thermal parks and see the colourful silica pools and bubbling mud. Later on enjoy a Maori cultural evening, including a traditional hangi meal and Maori show including the famous Haka.
Day 7
Continue your journey to Napier, on the coast of Hawkes Bay. Make sure you stop in Taupo for a coffee and visit the impressing Huka falls on your journey to the coast.
Day 8
Enjoy a leisurely morning exploring the interesting art deco architecture of the city, If you have a keen interest in art deco a tour can be arranged. After lunch join a wine tour in the Hawke's Bay wine region in the nearby Hastings area to enjoy their famous Pinot Noir and other beautiful wines.
Day 9
Make your way through the pretty Wairarapa region to Wellington. You might like to stop in Martinborough along the way to see their vineyards before continuing to Wellington where you will return your hire car and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.
Day 10
Today you have a free day in Wellington. Visit the national museum of Te Papa or take the cable car up to the botanical gardens. Wellington is a small but wonderful Capital with lots of bars, cafes and restaurants to sit and watch the world go by.
Day 11
Take the Interislander ferry across to the South Island today. The journey will see you leave the Wellington backdrop behind and arrive into the South Island through the stunning Marlborough Sounds. Make sure you are on deck to enjoy the views. On arrival in Picton collect your hire car and take a beautiful drive along the East coast to Kaikoura.
Day 12
Join a fantastic whale watching excursion this morning in search of Sperm whales, then spend the afternoon exploring the beautiful town of Kaikoura. This is one of few places in the world where the mountains are so close to the coast, it really does make for spectacular scenery.
Day 13
This morning you will continue on to Christchurch. On arrival return your hire car and have a wander around the city this afternoon. Make sure you visit the pop up container mall and the cardboard cathedral on your journey.
Day 14
An early start this morning as you board the Tranz Alpine train; a spectacular scenic journey over Arthur’s Pass to the west coast. This is some of the best scenery in the whole of New Zealand. On arrival in Greymouth you will collect another car and head south down the West coast to the glaciers.
Day 15
Take a spectacular scenic helicopter flight over Franz Josef and Fox Glacier this morning, then perhaps drive to the picturesque Lake Matheson or enjoy a walk on the valley floor this afternoon.
Day 16
Continue your journey south through the magnificent Haast Pass this morning. Plan for a day of photo stops – this is a beautiful drive and will take longer than you expect.
Day 17
Today is a full free day in Queenstown. Take a ride on the gondola for wonderful views over Lake Wakutipu and if you are feeling brave a ride on the Luge at the top! There are many activities on offer in Queenstown to suit everyone's interests.
Day 18
Make your way from Queenstown to the lakeside town of Te Anau today. On arrival you might want to visit the Fiordland cinema to see Ata Whenua a film about the spectacular scenery of the Fiordland National Park.
Day 19
This morning you will join a fabulous day trip to Milford Sound. You will enjoy a beautiful drive with stops en route for photos and then join a cruise along the Milford Sound Fiord to enjoy the breath-taking scenery.
Day 20
Make your way back to Queenstown today where you will return your hire car and take a domestic flight to Christchurch or Auckland whereupon you join your overnight flight home and the end of your New Zealand adventure.
