Taking to the sky by helicopter is undoubtedly the best way to view Fox and/or Franz Josef Glaciers. From this bird’s eye perspective you can see how the glacier has carved its way through the mountain peaks and down to almost sea level, though you will also be able to see how far the terminal face has retreated in the last few decades. There is a good selection of flights on offer – from a 20-minute taster to a 40-minute grand tour, all including a brief snow landing whereby you step out on the glacier, breathe in the pure alpine air and admire the spectacular views.
