About 90 minutes west of Abel Tasman National Park, Farewell Spit juts out in to the Tasman Sea: a 35-kilometre long sandspit that provides a unique habitat for wading birds and coastal vegetation. This half-day guided tour takes you along the spit to several points of interest including Puponga, the most northerly point of the South Island, and Fossil Point which are both good places to view seals. You will stop at the lighthouse keeper’s cottage for refreshments and climb one of the sand dunes for fantastic views of the coastline. Your guide will share the cultural and natural history of the area whilst keeping an eye out for the interesting birds that feed here.
