Dusky dolphins inhabit the waters off the coast of Kaikoura all year round and seeing them frolicking in the ocean is really an experience to remember. Take to the water by catamaran and spend a couple of hours looking for and observing pods of dolphins. The crew provide information on the dolphin ecology whilst keeping an eye out for other wildlife as well such as seals and marine birdlife. If the conditions are right there is the option to don a wetsuit and join the dolphins in the water. Whilst swimmers should not try and touch the dolphins they often come fairly close, which is a truly incredible experience.
