Just 30 minutes west of Auckland are the Waikatere Ranges, more than 16,000 hectares of native rainforest clad hills which separate the city from the west coast. This afternoon tour takes you first to the Arataki Visitor Centre which is the gateway to the Regional Park and has fantastic views over it. You will have time to admire the impressive Maori carvings and learn about the local history before heading down to the wild west coast. Here you will take a walk along one of the famous black sand beaches and in to the rainforest to listen to native bird call and learn about the unique flora and fauna of this eco-system. The whole takes around five hours.
